Well, wish we could say this was a surprise port. Unfortunately we had another "sea day" while docked. When we arrived at the port we learned that there would be no ship shuttle to town. And town was 25km from port. Only option would be a ship's tour or take a taxi. Here was the "you've got to be kidding me moment" - taxi fare was $100 USD one way!! Yep, the taxis are unionized and can charge excessive amounts. They also block the cruise line from providing its own shuttle. You can "rent one for an hour" - $100 one way... You get the picture?
We were docked in an industrial port with no terminal, no nothing. So ship board we stayed! It was a day of gin rummy. So on to the next port - Muscat, the capital of Oman.
Pre-cruise Post
After four sea days we will reach our sixth port of call, Salalah, Oman. There's not much listed on the site for tours and while the photos we see show lots of green, you can see from the satellite that the green is in a small area.
This will be a "wait and see" port once we are on the ship. We will visit with the crew and get their recommendations.
If we dock close enough to port we may just take a taxi into town and visit the city.
